We applied for new ones in Jan and our old ones ran out in Feb.
Finally got word from the asesor we can pick up temporary licences today but they are only valid in Spain. The plastic cards will be posted to us.
My mum has got a temporary one too in the same situation and they have contacted a hire car firm in the uk and sent them a copy of theirs. The hire car company say they will accept the temporary licence.
So who is right ?? I am presuming that the hire firm say it's ok because they want the business but what would happen if you got stopped by the police or you had an accident ?

We already have Spanish licences Cait, we were renewing them. They do have the euro symbol on and the proper ones are valid anywhere in Europe.

Re: Spanish Driving Licences
From today it is no longer necessary to go to the Tráfico offices to renew your driving licence. A law change means that you will now be able to pay for the new licence at the centre where your reflexes are tested.
The testing centre will give drivers a provisional document with which you will be covered to drive for 90 days, until your new licence arrives.
Up to now drivers had to go to the Tráfico offices to pay the charge for the new licence, although in some cases the testing centres offered to go on your behalf, for a fee.
It’s a simplification which has been demanded by the sector for some years and the Government thinks savings will result for both drivers and administration as a result, as well as reducing the famous long queues in Tráfico offices.
